Painting & Drawing Instruction
Private Painting Instruction
Individualized Oil Painting Lessons — Online
$60/hour | Zoom
Private instruction is available for beginner and intermediate artists who want individualized guidance with their painting process.
Rather than following a predetermined course, lessons are developed around your particular goals, experience, and areas that need attention. We can focus on foundational painting skills, work through specific projects together, or develop a longer-term plan as your needs change.
Lessons may include demonstrations, working through the same subject matter together, discussion and critique of your work, and exercises designed to strengthen specific skills.
Students are welcome to send images of their work for critique during the lesson. Assignments may also be given when helpful; otherwise, students can continue developing the projects and skills introduced during our lessons.
Private instruction may include:
Oil painting fundamentals
Developing a painting from start to finish
Drawing and structure within painting
Color and value relationships
Edges and transitions
Brushwork and paint handling
Working from photographic reference
Portrait and figure painting
Individual painting critique
Developing a personalized practice plan

Portrait Drawing Fundamentals
Ongoing | Saturdays, 9:30 AM–12:30 PM | Brandon, Florida
Portrait Drawing Fundamentals is an ongoing drawing class for beginner and intermediate artists who want to develop a stronger understanding of the structure of the human head.
Students begin by working from a simplified planar head cast, using the Asaro head to study the major planes and structural relationships of the head. Through comparative measurement, proportion, and careful observation, students learn to approach the head as a three-dimensional form rather than simply copying its surface appearance.
As students develop these foundational skills, they will begin applying them to portrait drawing from life with live models.
The class is designed to build skills progressively, making it appropriate for students who are new to portrait drawing as well as those looking to strengthen their existing foundation.
What you'll work on:
Structural construction of the head
Proportion and comparative measurement
Understanding the major planes of the face
Head position, centerlines, and alignment
Grouping light and shadow according to form
Developing accurate structure and likeness
Applying foundational skills to portraiture from life
